Montgomery Parks is seeking a Seasonal Construction Technician to join the Park Development Division (PDD). This position provides technical, administrative, and field support for construction and asset management projects by assisting with GIS mapping, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) data maintenance, field inspections, encroachment tracking, and project documentation. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both in an office environment and outdoors while supporting projects and management of park assets throughout Montgomery County.

The Construction Technician performs a variety of technical, administrative, and field support functions for the Park Development Division in support of construction, asset management, and GIS operations. Incumbent develops, maintains, and updates Geographic Information System (GIS) data for mapping Montgomery Parks facilities and assets, transferring information from CAD files to GIS feature classes through digitizing and other methods, editing asset attributes, and collecting field data utilizing GPS technology.

Assists with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) administration by assembling documentation, performing data entry, and generating reports.

The position conducts field inspections to verify asset information and provide photographic and written documentation.

The position supports the Park Encroachment process by collecting and compiling case information, coordinating site meetings, preparing work order requests, monitoring remediation progress, tracking enforcement activities, managing correspondence, and maintaining electronic documentation.

The position supports the Construction Section by preparing reports and correspondence, organizing and maintaining electronic and hard-copy project files, scanning and archiving documents, coordinating meeting materials and supporting documentation, and providing general administrative support to project teams. Performs other related duties as assigned to support the efficient delivery of capital improvement projects and the effective management of park assets.

Course Background/Skills Needed (training, experience preferred or required):
Successful candidates should possess experience using ESRI Geographic Information System (GIS) software for data collection, analysis, data management, and map creation. Knowledge of the natural environment and its management, as well as a general understanding of construction activities, practices, and processes, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and administrative skills, including experience scheduling maintaining Excel spreadsheets, and corresponding via email and formal letters, using Microsoft Office applications.

The ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, communicate effectively with staff and the public, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment is highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI Field Maps and GIS data collection applications.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate work progress reports, documentation, and professional email correspondence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with staff, contractors, property owners, and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and manage timelines while meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to organize, maintain, and update records and project documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to attend meetings and perform work in both an office environment and at construction sites.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and work outdoors approximately 50–60% of the time in varying weather conditions and over uneven terrain.
  • Ability to travel to various work sites throughout Montgomery County as required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (or the ability to obtain one prior to appointment) and the ability to operate a Commission vehicle, if required.
  • May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
