Overview

Richelieu Foods, Inc., a Freiberger Group Company, is a leading supplier of high-quality food products to the private label and food service industries. The Safety & Environmental Manager is responsible for the coordination, planning, and execution of our plant safety initiatives at the Wheeling, IL manufacturing plant. The Safety & Environmental Manager will provide guidance and direction for the plant’s safety management program to maintain a safe working environment for employees.

Responsibilities
  • Influence behavior and inspire commitment to comply with Richelieu Foods safety and health standards and work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with the Safety Program, applicable federal and state laws; identify safety risks and improvement opportunities; conduct safety observation audits and root cause analysis.
  • Facilitate incident investigation processes, including review of injury/illness/non-injury reports.
  • Participate as an active member of the Plant leadership team.
  • Track and assess safety and environmental requirements; maintain daily, weekly, and monthly metrics.
  • Monitor workers’ compensation processes as required by the State of Illinois and our carrier.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses and risk assessments for new equipment; recommend mitigation, including ergonomic considerations.
  • Develop and assess the effectiveness of safety training programs (new hire orientation, hourly standard work training, monthly leadership training, and specialized training).
  • Collaborate with site safety leaders to develop and implement safety-focused policies and programs.
  • Review EHS programs for regulatory compliance and update as needed.
  • Participate in safety incentive programs and evaluate their effectiveness in changing behavior.
  • Develop and manage site safety and environmental audits and reviews.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on safety and environmental issues; manage accident and incident investigations.
  • Monitor resource use to ensure compliance with waste management and recycling policies.
  • Analyze environmental monitoring data and prepare compliance reports and permits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Effective communication; able to work independently and in teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management principles.
  • Strong ability to set priorities and meet deadlines with attention to detail and results.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and senior business leaders.
  • Proficient in risk assessment and root cause analysis methods.
  • Ability to influence across multiple functions.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office knowledge; advanced Excel.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive safety leadership experience.
  • Manufacturing experience desired.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and may experience wet or humid conditions. The environment can be loud and involve exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and other hazards.

Additional Information

Universal Pay Verbiage:
Compensation depends on experience, geographic location, and other factors. The expected compensation is between $105,000 and $120,000 and the role is eligible for an annual incentive plan bonus. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, pre-tax accounts, retirement benefits, PTO, 401K with company match, disability, and life insurance.
