Wieland is hiring a 2nd Shift Slitter Operator
. The Slitter Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a slitting machine from the machine console along with its associated material handling equipment with the assistance of a teammate in the Finishing Dept. The operator must maintain a production schedule that includes set-ups, material handling, processing material, and monitoring the equipment while running. The operator must follow the priority of orders on the WFS (Wieland Factory Suite) manufacturing computer system.

This role is located in Wheeling, IL and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range
:$20.00/hr - $33.00/hr

Shift Differential: $0.50

Work Schedule
: 2nd Shift (2:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Responsibilities

Slitter Operator Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and as part of a team with safety as the number one priority. Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety or HR.
  • Perform routine inspection of work area to ensure proper housekeeping. Check the WFS computer for priorities, locate material, and inform logistics that the material is ready for loading on the machine.
  • Using GAMB computer program and WFS priorities, build set-ups as required for current / future Production Orders. Check samples using MMS computer in QC Lab.
  • Operate and monitor equipment - Collect 2nd set of samples at the end of the coil and check using MMS computer in QC Lab.
  • Clear machine of scrap and install next set-up onto the slitter arbor.
  • Interrupt machine operation if a safety, quality, or mechanical issue arises.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, fork truck, and pallet jacks (motorized & manual). Cross train in other areas of Finishing Department.
  • Maintain 5S improvements. Ensure a safe and environmentally responsible plant according to applicable regulations.
  • Reduce scrap by monitoring material quality & equipment performance. Cooperate with other areas to continuously improve quality, machine uptime, efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Maintain production schedule.
  • Monitor material quality including flatness, gauge, hardness, grain size and surface finish.
  • Ensure proper identification of coils and samples.
  • Achieve production throughput, yield and scrap goals.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a team environment.
  • Previous experience with heavy metals or similar type of manufacturing required.
  • Ability to work with calipers, micrometers, and other types of testing equipment required.
  • Ability to work under pressure with high stress levels required.
