Wieland is hiring a Second Shift Annealing Operator
. The Annealing Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating the SA2 Continuous Strand Annealing line with a team member using established metallurgical guidelines. The operator must maintain a production schedule for the equipment that includes processing material, material handling, monitoring line speed & temperature. Operator is also responsible for routine maintenance and overseeing the in‑house water preparation & treatment facility.
The Annealing Line Operator is responsible for keeping the furnace running & annealing metal to maximize production capacity. To anneal the coils per the list and schedule, with the highest quality to deliver to our customers. This role is located in Wheeling IL and will be fully on‑site.
Hourly Pay Range: $20.00/hour - $26.00/hour

ResponsibilitiesAnnealing Operator Responsibilities:
- Safely operating the equipment including coil changeovers, monitoring the quality of material running, adjust as necessary and basic maintenance.
- To review the mill card prior to processing in order to understand the requirements of annealing the material.
- To set up the assigned equipment and anneal the material in accordance with the work instructions located at the equipment site.
- Frontline line troubleshooting of SA2 and its associated equipment / Communicating needs to the Production Mgmt. & Maintenance Dept.
- To complete all quality checks and enter the required information onto the mill card. Adjust the settings on the equipment for production and performing routine calibrations. Test all process fluids to ensure the quality of the metal - Document findings on the SPC charts.
- Performing in‑process inspection (including hardness, surface finish, and grain size). Document process using the oven‑book.
- Gathers materials for jobs, loads, and unloads trucks, sort materials and maintains inventory documentation. Using material handling equipment (including forklift, crane, and walk behind mobile pallet jack) ensures that materials are moved and stored in proper locations; maintains cleanliness, safety, and order of facility and storage areas.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience with heavy metals or similar type of manufacturing.
- Ability to work with calipers, micrometers, and other types of testing equipment.
- Previous experience safely operating a fork truck, crane, and walk behind mobile pallet jack is preferred. Willingness to learn and become certified is required if no prior experience.
- Monitor material quality including flatness, gauge, hardness, grain size and surface finish; ensure proper identification of coils and samples.
- Achieve production throughput, yield and scrap goals.
