Position Title: Teacher

FLSA: Exempt

Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specialization and grade levels (WV Code §18A-3-2).
  • Criminal background check (WV Code §18-5-15c / §18A-3-10).
  • Meets the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substances that affect employee productivity, safety, or judgment in the workplace will not be tolerated.

Principal

Terms of Employment

Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by the Morgan County Board of Education.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor according to WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and Morgan County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.

Job Summary

Provide appropriate instruction to students and ensure that the students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of WV College and Career Readiness, district's curriculum program, and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Use 21st Century Technology skills to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Deliver rigorous instruction to all students.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by WVDE and board policies.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to support school‑wide academic performance goals.
  • Cooperate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned (e.g., curricular fairs, awards programs, field trips).
  • Maintain positive role model for students.
  • Support mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with WV Board of Education Policy 4373 and the student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities.
  • Keep informed and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Adhere to Employee Code of Conduct (Morgan County School’s Policy 3210).
  • Perform other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the superintendent or immediate supervisor.
Physical Demands

Frequent lifting and/or moving of at least 10 pounds of materials. The job requires reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, writing, talking, hearing, seeing, using technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and repetitive motions.

Work Environment

Educational setting, indoors, noise level low to moderate (20‑60 dB).
