Physical Education Teacher – Sherman Elementary School (Job )
Reports To: Building Principal
Employment Term: 200-Day Contract, Full-Time
Job SummaryThe Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for providing a comprehensive, standards-based physical education program that promotes students' physical fitness, motor skills development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits. The teacher will create a safe, structured, and engaging environment that encourages active participation and supports the overall well-being of all students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan, develop, and implement age-appropriate physical education lessons aligned with West Virginia content standards.
- Instruct students in a variety of physical activities, sports, fitness concepts, and movement skills.
- Promote physical fitness, health awareness, and lifelong wellness habits.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of performance and participation.
- Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive environment for all students.
- Manage equipment, supplies, and PE facilities responsibly.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and positive sportsmanship.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support school-wide wellness initiatives.
- Supervise students during PE activities, transitions, and related events.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
- Valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate in Physical Education or appropriate endorsement.
- Knowledge of child development and physical education instructional strategies.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate students and promote positive behavior and participation.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and administration.
- Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate physical activities for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, and set up PE equipment as needed.
- Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor physical activity settings.
Salary is based on the Boone County Schools Salary Schedule for Professional Personnel and will be determined according to qualifications and experience.
