Position: Mobile Classroom Aide & Bus Support

Position Summary

Paraprofessional, Early Childhood Classroom Teacher Assistant, Aide I/II/III/IV, Autism Mentor, Transportation Aide. Immediate. Supervisor:
Principal. FLSA Status:
Non‑Exempt.

Employment Terms

Term:
Minimum 200 days annually pursuant to WV Code §18A‑4‑8; extended days may be established by HCBOE.

Salary and Benefits

Salary paid according to the Hampshire County Salary Schedule, Pay Grade B‑F, commensurate with experience and education plus a competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.

Evaluation

Performance evaluated by the building principal or immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code §18A‑2‑12, State Board Policy 5314, and HCBOE Evaluation Policy for Service Personnel.

Job Summary

The aide assists the teacher(s) in implementing the instructional program, working directly with children in small groups or one‑to‑one, and establishing effective rapport with students. Assigned to a school bus, the aide supervises student passengers and secures them in safety restraints.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (WV Code §18A‑2‑5)
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18‑5‑15c
  • Meet the definition of “Qualifications” in WV Code §18A‑4‑8e (state‑approved competency test) as required.
  • Special Education Aides must complete the Hampshire County approved management training (e.g., Safety Care) upon request of the school level administrator or Special Education Director (re‑certification when necessary).
  • Transportation aides must complete CPR/First Aid to remain qualified.
  • Transportation aides must complete wheelchair/harness training for school buses.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Maintain cooperative relationships and exhibit professional behavior with principals, supervising teachers, students, parents, staff, and the public.
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills appropriate for the position.
  • Assist the teacher in supervising children in the classroom and various school locations (instructional areas, cafeteria, bus).
  • Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, playground duty, and other duties assigned by the building supervisor or principal.
  • Maintain a safe environment conducive to learning.
  • Practice good safety habits and have knowledge of basic first aid and CPR.
  • Assist teacher as needed with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
  • Conduct learning games with students following established procedures.
  • Assist with supervision and instruction of children; support activities such as copying, cutting, coloring, and construction of materials and bulletin boards.
  • Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher.
  • Assist in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  • Demonstrate patience while working with children.
  • Show willingness to learn new skills, flexibility, and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Work independently without direct supervision.
  • Respond to questions from administrators, students, staff, and the general public consistently with duties.
  • Follow written and oral directions and complete assignments.
  • Solve practical problems in variable situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Comply fully with county requirements, board policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in preparing snacks for students as needed.
  • Anticipate and address unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children.
  • Remain aware and alert of medication administered to students.
  • Maintain confidentiality and unquestionable integrity.
  • Dress appropriately and conform to safety standards.
  • Keep accurate records and perform routine clerical duties related to student programs.
  • Use office equipment, computers, and other technology to meet student needs.
  • Help maintain an up‑to‑date classroom inventory and perform clerical duties for classroom purposes.
