Itinerant Classroom Special Education Instructional Aide/Autism Mentor at Jane Lew Elementary School (Lewis County Schools). Position Type:

• Valid First Aid card and CPR certification.
• Autism Mentor certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
• State Aide's Competency Test completion for applicants not already employed or on the Aide Substitute List.
• Preference for those currently employed or on the Aide Substitute List.

• Age 18 or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent, per WV Code §18A-2-5.
• Criminal background check per WV Code §18-5-15c.
• Capability to ride a bus for transportation to and from school related activities.
• Ready to receive training in Autism Mentor, Positive Behavioral Support, Picture Exchange Communication System, Visual Scheduling.

• Under supervision of licensed teacher, prepare for classroom activities.
• Teach students to care for personal belongings.
• Assist teacher with non‑instructional duties in classroom, playground, cafeteria, and bus loading/unloading.
• Help with recess and necessary “extra” trips.
• Handle routine interruptions and provide assistance when teacher is occupied.
• Support development of student self‑discipline via positive behavior reinforcement.
• Assist in instructional times with activities such as drill work, reading, storytelling, small groups, and individual station activities.
• Work with small groups of students to store/inforce material introduced by the teacher.
• Evaluate daily work and plan for following day in collaboration with teacher.
• Maintain high ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
• Assist with use of computer hardware and software.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Crawl, sit, stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, grasp, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.
• Lift or move at least 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds vertically for Special Education and Transportation positions).

As provided in WV Code 18A-4-8 and 18A-4-8a.

7:30 AM – 3:00 PM (time may vary to accommodate student schedules).

200 days.
