200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45.
Shift7:15 AM – 3:15 PM (may include both classroom and transportation duties; transportation times may vary based on student needs)
SalaryPay Grade E or F; $28,765 – $43,330 based on 200 days, plus applicable supplements per Mineral County Salary Schedule.
Job SummaryThe aide/paraprofessional assists the teacher(s) in implementing the instructional program. Responsibilities include working directly with children in small groups or one‑to‑one, establishing rapport, motivating students, and providing instructional support. If assigned to a school bus, the aide supervises student passengers, ensuring safe restraint and travel.
Performance Responsibilities- Assist teacher with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials
- Conduct learning games with students per established procedures
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with State Law and County policies
- Maintain a safe learning environment
- Anticipate and address unforeseen crises associated with large groups of children
- Assist with supervision and instruction of children (e.g., copying, cutting, coloring, constructing materials and bulletin boards)
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher
- Implement lessons based on district and school objectives, needs, and student abilities
- Assist with supervision of student passengers on buses and maintain a safe traveling environment (if assigned to transportation duties)
- Attend in‑services and workshops as directed
- Maintain confidentiality and unquestionable integrity
- Assist teacher in supervising children in the classroom and at other school locations (instructional areas, cafeteria, bus, etc.)
- Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, and playground duty
- Maintain positive work habits and perform duties efficiently and productively
- Update and upgrade skills as needed
- Promote positive pupil‑staff‑community relations
- Adhere to the Employee Code of Conduct (Mineral County School Policy 4210)
- Perform duties assigned by the immediate supervisor(s)
- High school diploma or equivalent (WV Code §18A‑2‑5)
- Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A‑4‑8b
- Demonstrated competency per WV Code §18A‑4‑8e (state‑approved competency test)
- Criminal background check per WV Code §18‑5‑15c and/or §18A‑3‑10
- Hold or qualify for Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher certification (ECCAT I, II, or III)
- Complete current state competency exam for the aide classification (WV Code §18A‑4‑8e)
- Ability to facilitate instruction and provide direct/indirect supervision of students
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff, and the public
- Mathematical proficiency (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions)
- Effective communication with school personnel, parents, and external contacts
- Ability to work with children and adults, individually and in groups, to support academics and behavior management
- Patience and willingness to learn new skills
- Self‑motivated; works without direct supervision
- Problem‑solving and adaptability to varied situations
- Interpret instructions (written, oral, diagram, schedule) accurately
- Perform tasks in compliance with county requirements and Board policies
- Foster harmonious relationships with staff and external stakeholders
- Oral and written communication skills aligned with role duties
- Interpersonal relationship skills aligned with role duties
- Dress appropriately and adhere to safety standards
Frequent lifting/moving of at least 50 pounds (100 pounds vertically for Special Education and Transportation positions). Requires reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, writing, speaking, hearing, seeing, using technology, and repetitive motions. Must meet multiple demands from various individuals and interact with the public.
Work EnvironmentEducational setting indoors. Noise level moderate to loud (60‑90 dB). Relies on reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
