Job Goal

Qualifications
  • Possess a valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate for Music PK-AD.
  • Completion of a successful background check.
  • Ability to teach all levels and types of music classes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability providing differentiated instruction and intervention to students exhibiting a wide range of abilities and behaviors.
  • Must accept co‑curricular assignments as assigned.
  • Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as an Instrumental/Chorus/General Music Teacher/Band Director.
Essential Functions of the Job
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and district laws and policies.

  • Demonstrate a deep and extensive knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Design standards-driven instruction using state-approved curricula.
  • Use a balanced assessment approach to guide student learning.
  • Understand and respond to the unique characteristics of learners.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and appropriate learning environment.
  • Establish and maintain a learner-centered culture.
  • Utilize a variety of research-based instructional strategies.
  • Motivate and engage students in learning, problem solving and collaboration.
  • Adjust instruction based on a variety of assessments and student responses.
  • Engage in professional development for self-renewal that guides continuous examination and improvement of professional practice.
  • Engage in collaborative learning opportunities for self-renewal with colleagues.
  • Participate in school-wide collaborative efforts to support the success of all students.
  • Work with parents, guardians, families and community entities to support student learning and well-being.
  • Promote practices and policies that improve school environment and student learning.
  • Provide measurable progress of student learning of state-approved curricula.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct as defined in law, policy and procedure at the state, district, and school level.
  • Direct performances by the music students for all fine and performing arts productions and events.
  • Train instrumental/chorus/general music/band students for participation in concerts, musical productions, music contests and festivals.
  • Collaborate with music colleagues throughout the county to organize performances.
  • Coordinate all performances through the principal or designee prior to scheduling.
  • Arrange transportation for all performances.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.
