Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated by the building principal or immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code §18A‑2‑12 & §18A‑3C‑2; WV State Board Policy 5310, and Pocahontas County Schools Policy 3220

Position Summary

“Classroom teacher”: a professional educator who has a direct instructional or counseling relationship with students and who spends the majority of his or her time in this capacity.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Applicants who have recent unsatisfactory evaluations, poor interview performance, or unfavorable reference recommendations are not eligible for consideration.
  • Additional Minimum Requirements for Applicants Not Currently Employed: Applicants who have been dismissed or whose contracts were non‑renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration.

  • Design and prepare lesson plans that are well‑structured, engaging, and aligned with curriculum standards; select appropriate resources and technology.
  • Assess student learning by planning evaluations that align with goals and establishing clear expectations and criteria.
  • Understand individual students’ interests, learning styles, and backgrounds to design differentiated instruction.
Classroom Environment
  • Create a respectful culture by building mutual respect and rapport with students.
  • Manage student behavior with clear expectations and procedures; promote self‑discipline and respond to misbehavior respectfully.
  • Organize the classroom, arranging physical space and supplies to maximize accessibility and support learning.
Instruction
  • Engage students in learning using diverse strategies and activities, including hands‑on projects and student‑driven work.
  • Communicate clearly, delivering accurate instruction with clear directions; demonstrate strong listening skills.
  • Provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback; encourage students to reflect on their learning.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by adapting lessons and methods to student needs and feedback.
