Summer School Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher / Aide / Paraprofessional (2 Positions)
Location: Flatwoods Elementary School
Length of Employment: Required training day, July 1, and July 6–31 (contingent upon student enrollment and continued participation).
Salary: West Virginia state minimum pay scale.
Classification: Service
Reports to: Building Principal, Assistant Principal
Evaluation: Evaluated annually by the building principal / immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Effective Employment Date: With start of the program.
Performance Responsibilities- To provide individual or small group instruction under the supervision of the teacher.
- To participate in comprehensive training and implementation of key practices in literacy and numeracy driven by the Third Grade Success Act under the supervision of the teacher (for Grades 1-3).
- To provide students with individualized attention.
- To assist in grading assignments and recording grades.
- To set up and operate equipment for instruction.
- To assist with preparing materials for instruction.
- To assist the teacher with escorting students to and from the bus.
- To provide library assistance to students.
- To assist with the preparation of snacks for students as needed.
- To assist and supervise special needs students in the regular classroom setting.
- To assist in maintaining an inventory of classroom materials and supplies.
- To assist in the modification of materials and instructional activities for special needs students in the regular classroom.
- To assist in the implementation of accommodations for special needs students in the regular classroom.
- To practice good safety habits.
- To perform clerical duties such as filing and data entry for classroom purposes.
- To be aware of medications administered to students.
- To maintain confidentiality of students' records.
- May be required to ride bus.
- Demonstrates the ability to plan and prioritize his/her daily activities and anticipate job responsibilities that need to be performed.
- Operates the office efficiently in the absence of the supervisor(s).
- Completes tasks efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision.
- Instills in students the belief and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal or superintendent of schools.

Certifications and Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5.
- Meet the definition of “Qualifications” in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrate competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test).
- Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18‑5‑15c and/or §18A‑3‑10, as appropriate.
- Ability to perform the job duties below.
- Must hold one of the following certificates issued by the WVDE as defined in §18A‑4‑8:
- "Aide I" meaning a person selected and trained for a teacher‑aide classification such as monitor aide, clerical aide, classroom aide, or general aide.
- "Aide II" meaning a service person referred in the "Aide I" classification who has completed a training program approved by the State Board, or who holds a high school diploma or has received a General Educational Development…
