Reports To:
School Principal, His/Her Designee or Other Assigned Immediate Supervisor
To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials; to contribute to the efficient operation of a school office so it can play its effective part in the education process; and to assist in providing safe transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from Ohio County Schools curricular and extra‑curricular programs.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Passing score on the West Virginia aide classification competency test.
- Completion of a successful background check.
- Basic word processing skills preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to prepare reports and perform required bookkeeping procedures.
- Computer skills including competency in word processing, data management and spreadsheets.
- Experience and training with toileting, catheterization, aspiration techniques and other special needs as needed.
- Any combination of training and experience that leads to successful employment as an Aide in Teacher Aide, Clerical Aide, Special Education Aide, and/or Bus Aide.
- Classification as requiring a medium‑heavy work capacity.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and district laws and policies.
- Prepare student attendance reports.
- Provide and collect workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
- Collect and record collections of money.
- Read to students and participate in other forms of oral communications with students.
- Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by teachers.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by teachers.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teachers.
- Operate and care for classroom and office equipment including computers.
- Assist with lunch, snack and clean‑up routines.
- Assist with toileting and wash‑up routines of both male and female students, which may include catheterization, associated lifting, aspiration techniques and other special needs as required.
- Assist with dressing and undressing of both male and female students.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information.
- Type a variety of materials such as letters, student records, reports and memos.
- Respond calmly and objectively to a variety of situations.
- Provide behavior management techniques in crisis situations before resorting to passive restraint.
- Possess physical attributes to passively restrain both male and female students over extended periods.
- Display ability to physically control adolescent male and female students.
- Assist in maintaining a structured learning environment through proper organization of time, space arrangements and material organization.
- Implement established rules, instructions, preventive discipline, and other environmental stimuli to effect significant changes in student functioning.
- Implement social, tangible, token activities and other contingency stimuli to manage behavior and effect behavior changes.
- Follow lesson plans for instructional, social, academic and emotional skills and objectives.
- Assist with modifying curriculum materials.
- Assist teachers, other staff members or administration in working with students.
- Provide input into planning and scheduling.
