Position: Adjunct (Part Time) - Surgical Technology

Job Description Summary

WVNCC seeks qualified individuals to fill temporary, part‑time adjunct faculty positions on a course‑by‑course basis for our Surgical Technology program. The adjunct pool is accessed only when an opening arises and is based on enrollment. Qualified applications will remain active for up to one year.

Course Structures
  • Day, evening, and weekend courses
  • On‑Campus courses at Wheeling, New Martinsville, and Weirton campuses
  • Remote / Online courses (synchronous and asynchronous)
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Follow the rules and regulations of the College.
  • Promptly complete and return mandatory college forms.
  • Activate and use the WVNCC adjunct email account for institutional correspondence.
  • Use Northern on the Web (NOW) to report first‑week attendance, final grades, and student contact information.
  • Use the College approved syllabus incorporating all elements of the master course guide.
  • Post the syllabus in the learning management system (LMS) before the first class or the first day of the semester for online sections.
  • Submit a copy of the syllabus 48 hours before the class begins.
  • Plan and implement strategies to achieve course objectives and outcomes.
  • Clearly explain assignments, expectations, attendance policy, grading policy, evaluation methods, and class procedures.
  • Evaluate students based on their progress toward objectives and outcomes.
  • Post grades in LMS within required deadlines.
  • Advise and assist students with course‑related matters.
  • Use early warning systems for students not making satisfactory progress and refer to the Academic Resource Center (ARC) when needed.
  • Meet each class during scheduled hours in campus‑based courses or participate in teaching activities for online courses.
  • Ensure classes are held for the required number of scheduled hours each term.
  • Arrange equipment, supplies, field trips, or other activities needed for the course.
  • Submit all program and course assessment practices and instruments as requested.
  • Use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Respond to academic appeals.
Online Course Instructional Duties
  • Use assigned WVNCC email for all communication.
  • Engage with students at least weekly in discussion boards or online video sessions.
  • Respond to student emails within 48–72 hours.
  • Post a detailed syllabus using the standard template.
  • Post grades within one week of the due date, except for major assignments requiring more time.
Education
  • Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology, preferred.
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program, required minimum.
Experience
  • Graduate of a surgical technology education program accredited by a nationally recognized agency.
  • Credential in surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Minimum two years of experience in the operating room scrub role or as a surgical technology instructor within the past five years.
Professional Development
  • Keep up-to-date with information and practices in the discipline taught.
  • Maintain current instructional technology skills.
  • Participate in College‑provided workshops, materials, and online tutorials.
College Service
  • Understand and interpret the College’s mission, vision, academic policies, and student support services.
  • Refer students appropriately for academic support.
  • Uphold excellence in teaching, academic integrity, and the College’s work ethic.
