- Provide assistance to special and regular education teachers as they collaborate to meet the needs of special education students in all settings.
- Monitor special education timelines and ensure meetings are held within the due date.
- Assist in determining students' eligibility for special education services based on WV Board of Education Policy 2419 requirements.
- Assist with monitoring special education suspensions and chair manifestation determination meetings as required.
- Provide direct services to students as needed.
- Collect IEP data as needed to determine student service needs.
- Provide staff development training for teachers on a variety of special education topics.
- Collaborate closely with new teachers and teachers on permit in completing special education paperwork.
- Attend conferences and trainings in order to comply with WVDE initiatives.
- Participate in continuing education to provide current research‑based interventions to other settings and facilitate the implementation of interventions countywide.
- Coordinate and assist with end‑of‑year IEP submissions by each special education teacher as part of the check‑out process.
- Participate with SAT teams as appropriate and necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of student files and student information as expected through FERPA and HIPAA.
- Possess proficiency with technology (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, WVEIS, Online IEPs, etc.).
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Programs.
- Create and implement rigorous, modified curricula that incorporate acceleration, depth, and complexity.
- Facilitate data screening, testing, and selection processes to identify gifted and talented students in alignment with State and district criteria.
- Address the unique psychological needs of gifted learners, such as perfectionism, underachievement, and asynchronous development.
- Partner with general classroom teachers to co‑plan, co‑teach, and model instructional strategies for high‑ability students.
- Maintain compliance with State education regulations and maintain progress reports for identified students.
- Act as a liaison between administrators, staff, and parents regarding gifted education policies and student opportunities.
- Master's Degree in Special Education with certification in multi-categorical, autism, and severe‑profound.
- Endorsement in Gifted Education.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience providing education and services to children with IEPs, ages 3 to 21, with a variety of special needs in school, home, and community settings.
