Substitute Summer School Nurse

Position Type:
Student Support Services/ School Nurse

• Hold a bachelor's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• Hold a valid Registered Nurse license for the state of West Virginia.
• Complete the required school nurse certification program.

Salary: $30 per hour

Term:
Summer School Term July 2 - August 3, 2026 on an as needed basis.

Hinton Area Elementary School

Responsible to:
Principal and Director of Curriculum

• Collaborate with district leadership and principals to provide leadership for school health at the local school level that meets the needs of students in the school.
• Deliver school-based health services at the school level.
• Conduct applicable health screenings.
• Collaborate with county level health officials and health care agencies to promote wellness at the school.
• Complete required documentation and maintain accurate records.
• Implement follow‑up services to ensure maintained health.
• Maintain patient confidentiality as prescribed by law.
• Provide individual healthcare services for students and staff.
• Assist with medical clinics.
• Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases by assessment, referral, and follow‑up measures.
• Counsel parents and students with pertinent information regarding health needs.
• Provide emergency and first aid care as appropriate.
• Assess immunization status of students entering Summers County Schools and provide required reports to applicable agencies.
• Complete health assessments as directed by various Summers County Schools departments.
• Obtain health information as required by state law, Summers County Board of Education, and West Virginia Board of Education Policy.
• Maintain professional work habits.
• Regularly upgrade work skills.
• Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or supervisor.
