Job Description & How to Apply Below
At Wheeling University, you'll find more than just a workplace - you'll join a mission-driven community that lives by values of leadership, service, faith, integrity, and excellence. As an employee, you'll be part of a university that is committed to integrating learning, research, and outreach within its Catholic tradition, seeking to develop not only competent professionals, but also socially responsible citizens.
Wheeling promotes close student-faculty connections and encourages all members to grow both intellectually and ethically, to serve with compassion among diverse communities, and to lead by example. In such an environment, your work will matter - your contributions help sustain a culture where academic rigor, moral purpose, and service to others are not just ideals, but daily practice.
Wheeling University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Theology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will lead and develop the University's Theology program while teaching a 4-4 course load across the undergraduate curriculum. Candidates without the terminal degree will also be considered for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor.

- Contribute to service at the departmental, university, and community levels.
- M.A. in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate theology courses.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and student engagement.

- Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Background in Catholic theology and/or demonstrated engagement with Catholic intellectual tradition.
- Experience in program leadership, curriculum development, or assessment.
- Record of successful undergraduate teaching.
- Experience mentoring diverse student populations and fostering inclusive learning environments.
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic programs.
- A cover letter addressing qualifications, teaching philosophy, and fit with the mission of Wheeling University.
- A curriculum vitae.
