Position Overview

Location:

Buckhannon Academy Elementary School, Upshur County Schools

Immediate Supervisor:
Principal/Asst. Principal.

Employment Term:
Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45.

Salary:
According to the Upshur County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.

FLSA Status:
Exempt.

Job Summary

Provide appropriate instruction to students and ensure they meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement WV College and Career Readiness.
  • Implement adopted and supplemental academic programs.
  • Implement 21st Century Learning Skills and Technology Tools.
  • Plan and implement collaborative models with special education students and teachers.
  • Plan and implement designated co-curricular activities and/or programs such as curricular fairs, awards programs, student organizations, and field trips.
  • Design standards-driven instruction and use a balanced assessment approach to guide student learning.
  • Plan and implement support for personalized learning for all students to respond to the unique characteristics of learners.
  • Show strong working and communication skills with students, parents, and peers.
  • Implement other programs designated by principal, central office, and WVDE for school improvement.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and appropriate learning environment.
  • Fulfill and demonstrate professional growth in the West Virginia High Quality Standards and improvement in professional practice.
  • Demonstrate understanding of The Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Perform supervisory and other duties as assigned by Principal.
Special Education Teacher Duties
  • Diagnose and assess student needs in accordance with county and state special education procedures.
  • Develop an IEP for each child in the program, with parent input.
  • Utilize teaching techniques and classroom strategies for varied learning styles and modes.
  • Collaborate with other special education and regular classroom teachers.
  • Perform record keeping, reporting, documentation of parent and agency contacts, IEP development, and special education reports.
  • Promote positive home/school relationships through IEP conferences, progress reports, and parent training.
  • Assist in selection of programs, equipment, and materials per IEP.
  • Utilize equipment and facilities to support instruction.
  • Interact with students to promote a positive school image.
  • Promote positive community relations through communication and involvement.
  • Supervise paraprofessionals, aides, and volunteers.
  • Work with principal and supervisory staff to solve student-related problems.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certificate/licensing to teach the specializations and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2.
  • Criminal background check as per WV Code §18-5-15c.
  • Meets qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.
  • Maintain up-to-date certification/licensure per WVBE Policy 5202.
