According to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Hampshire County Salary Schedule, Pay Grade B, C, D, E or F; commensurate with experience and education level plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation. - Employment Type:

Performance will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and HCBOE Evaluation Policy for Service Personnel.
JOB SUMMARYThe Aide assists the teacher(s) in a variety of ways to implement the instructional program including working directly with children in small groups or on a one‑to‑one basis; establishing effective rapport, motivating students, and facilitating learning appropriate to each pupil’s ability. For school‑bus aides, the role includes supervision of student passengers and ensuring safety restraints are properly used.
QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c.
- Meet the definition of “Qualifications” in WV Code §18A-4-8e (state‑approved competency test) as required.
- Special Education Aides must complete the Hampshire County approved management training (e.g., Safety Care) upon the request of the school‑level administrator or Special Education Director and recertify when necessary.
- Transportation aides must complete CPR/First Aid and wheelchair/harness training for school buses.
- Must successfully complete 36‑hour post‑secondary requirement as defined by policy 5202.
- Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten aides must be eligible for Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher‑Temporary Authorization and complete required coursework within two years to keep the authorization current.
- Autism Mentors must meet qualifications of Aide III, complete a staff development program related to autism services (as determined by WVDE), have two years of experience providing classroom instructional support to autistic students under supervision of a certified special education teacher, and have the physical ability to perform all job tasks.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships and exhibit professional behavior with principal, supervising teacher(s), students, parents, staff, and the public.
- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills appropriate to the duties of this position.
- Assist in the supervision of children in the classroom and at various location—instructional areas, cafeteria, bus, hall monitor, lunchroom, playground, and other duties assigned.
- Ensure a safe, conducive learning environment and practice good safety habits; possess basic first aid and CPR knowledge.
- Assist teachers with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
- Conduct learning games and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher.
- Implement lessons based on district and school objectives, needs, and student abilities.
- Show patience, flexibility, and willingness to perform a variety of tasks; remain self‑motivated and work without direct supervision.
- Respond to questions from administrators, students, staff, and the general public in a professional manner.
- Follow written and oral directions, complete assignments, solve practical problems, and interpret instructions in various formats.
- Accurately perform assigned tasks in full compliance with county requirements, board policies, and standard operating procedures.
