Job Summary- Direct instructional relationship with the students.
- Carry out the laws and policies of the State and County relating to education, including rules pertaining to the welfare of the student.
- Exhibit the ability to manage time, follow a schedule and work independently.
- Develop materials to be used in the classroom for students with varying intellectual levels.
- Be willing to instruct students in the acquisition of functional skills.
- Research and utilize best practices, current trends, new technology/assistive devices, and teaching strategies geared toward students on the Autism spectrum.
- Develop IEP's for students on the Autism spectrum within the mandated time lines.
- Continually evaluate the progress of students.
- Exhibit a willingness to enhance professional skills through additional training.
- Foster professional relationships with principals, teachers, and other agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education.
- A valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate or eligibility for a permit with multi-categorical and autism endorsements through the WVDE to teach Resource.
- Special Education Certification in Autism.
- Experience working with children on the Autism spectrum.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices specific for students on the Autism spectrum.
- Be able to impart information and orally communicate with students, families and others.
- Be able to understand and respond to oral communications and directions.
- Be able to read, write, understand and respond to written instructions, communications and materials.
- When supervising a group of students, have the capacity to ensure the safety of, observe, supervise and assess all situations involving a student, a group of students and co-workers.
- For Elementary, K and Pre-K – Have mobility, strength, and dexterity to be able to lift a student weighing up to 40 pounds; interact at each student's maturity level and size; and retrieve students who wander and/or run from the group.
