Wheeling University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Theology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will lead and develop the University's Theology program while teaching a 4-4 course load across the undergraduate curriculum. Candidates without the terminal degree will also be considered for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach four undergraduate courses per semester in Theology, including core curriculum and upper-level electives.
- Provide academic leadership for the Theology program, including curriculum development and assessment.
- Advise and mentor students pursuing degrees or minors in Theology.
- Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to a tenure-track faculty member.
- Contribute to service at the departmental, university, and community levels.
Qualifications include:
- M.A. in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate theology courses.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and student engagement.
- Evidence of scholarly potential in Theology or Religious Studies.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Background in Catholic theology and/or demonstrated engagement with Catholic intellectual tradition.
- Experience in program leadership, curriculum development, or assessment.
- Record of successful undergraduate teaching.
- Experience mentoring diverse student populations and fostering inclusive learning environments.
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic programs.
