Responsibilities
  • Maintain effective working relationship with Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Central Office Administrators, and Principal.
  • Assist the principal in providing instructional leadership and support within the school building.
  • Assist the principal in creating and maintaining a climate conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Assist the principal in implementing a system to monitor student progress.
  • Assist the principal in establishing and implementing a school improvement system.
  • Assist the principal in maintaining high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students.
  • Assist the principal in planning and supervising fire drills and emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Assist the principal in evaluating all staff members under his/her supervision.
  • Assist the principal in maintaining school fiscal and ordering responsibility.
  • Assist the principal in arranging for appropriate maintenance of building and facilities.
  • Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Assist the principal in establishing good public and employee relations.
  • Assist the principal in maintaining professional work habits.
  • Assist the principal in maintaining and upgrading professional skills in order to accomplish job goal.
  • Assist with operating the Alternative Learning Center as needed.
  • Act as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Assistant Superintendent.
Qualifications
  • A valid West Virginia Principal's Certificate PK-Adult.
  • Successful administrative experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of high school curriculum.
  • Ability to analyze assessment data and other test data to improve learning for all students.
  • Knowledge/understanding of state initiatives: 21st Century Skills, Teach 21, SPI, West Virginia Next Generation Content Standards, Objectives, Standards Based Instruction, and Professional Learning Communities.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of the needs, laws, and procedure regarding the West Virginia Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools Policy and the education and discipline of students.
  • Ability to effectively manage a program of student behavior.
  • Knowledge of Effective Schools/Teaching Research as it applies to the management of a school.
  • Ability to use technology for administrative and instructional purposes.
  • Demonstrate a working ability to utilize current technology including but not limited to WVEIS.
  • Knowledge/experience assessing the needs of a school, evaluating the effectiveness of school practices, developing school improvement plans, setting goals, establishing procedures to manage day-to-day decisions, and utilizing site-based management.
  • Knowledge of County Mission and Five-Year Strategic Plan.
  • Ability to write and implement the school's Strategic Plan.
  • Knowledge/experience preparing a school schedule.
  • Knowledge/experience preparing and utilizing interdisciplinary scheduling.
  • Knowledge/experience holding staff meetings, assigning staff responsibilities, analyzing school personnel needs, and arranging for staff development.
  • Ability to provide effective instructional leadership for school improvement councils, faculty senates, and curriculum teams.
  • The ability to demonstrate and use Smart Find Express.
  • Knowledge/experience preparing, allocating and managing a school budget, student activities budget, and quasi-public funds.
  • Developing effective working relationships among administration, teachers, students, parents, and the community.
