Assistant School Principal

Effective Date:  School Year

Immediate Supervisor: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Employment Term: 2 years

Salary: According to the Hancock County Schools salary schedule for professionals, commensurate with experience and degree level.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee in accordance with WV State Code § 1 SA‑2-12 and State Board Policy 5310.

General

Job Description:

Assists in the development and administration of instructional and other programs at the school; supervises and evaluates the work of teaching, clerical, and other staff; consults with parents, community members, and stakeholders; offers guidance to individual students; resolves disciplinary problems; develops policy and procedure and promotes their enforcement; participates in scheduling, requisitioning supplies, record keeping, reporting, and conducting fire drills;

leads meetings and discussions.

Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Education (Education Administration or Educational Leadership preferred). Appropriate valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate. Eligible for a West Virginia Principal's Certificate in respective grades.

  • Experience: Evidence of successful administrative experience in an approved school.

  • Proficiency Areas: Staff relations; school community leadership; instructional leadership and educational proficiency; administrative skills including organization, fiscal, public policy, and total quality management.

General Functions and Responsibilities
  • This individual is responsible for administering educational and other programs at a middle school; performs related work as required.
  • Considerable knowledge of educational principles, practices, methods, techniques, and materials; knowledge of education administration; training, supervision, and data analysis.
  • Ability to develop and administer educational programs; supervise the work of others; establish effective working relations; communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Maintain awareness of changes and developments in the profession through professional journals, meetings, and conferences, and discuss problems of mutual interest.
  • Stay informed on Global 21 initiatives and modern curriculum trends to improve education for all achievement levels.
Specific Administrative Responsibilities
  • Implement all federal, state, and county policies and procedures.
  • Provide instructional leadership and support within the school building.
  • Provide purpose and direction for school and county.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Create a climate conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate cognitive skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize information to reach goals.
  • Organize and delegate to accomplish goals.
  • Assist in general supervision of all school activities involving pupils, teachers, and other personnel.
  • Implement a system to monitor and report student progress and school-wide discipline programs.
  • Supervise the maintenance of accurate records on discipline, attendance, and grades.
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline according to due process for the rights of students.
  • Establish and implement a school improvement process.
  • Establish positive public and employee communications relations.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and effective learning climate.
  • Evaluate personnel under supervision in accordance with WV Policy 5310 and HCBOE Policy GNC‑P.
  • Maintain and improve professional work habits and skills.
  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the building.
  • Perform all or any additional reasonable job-related responsibilities assigned by Superintendent or designee.
