We are currently seeking a talented Process Engineer 2/3 at our Rocket Center, WV location just outside of Cumberland MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops, and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.

This position will we be located on-site at our Rocket Center, WV location. No remote opportunities are available for this position.

This position will be filled at either the Principal Process Engineer (3) level or Process Engineer (2) level based on candidate skills, experience, and interview performance.

The process engineer develops and oversees manufacturing processes based on design requirements. The candidate will develop and maintain detailed work instructions for assigned products/processes, provide suggestions to improve productivity, compile and analyze processing data, investigate manufacturing problems and implement corrective actions, support proposal and development activities and provide day to day support to manufacturing personnel.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinates with design engineering on design and manufacturability issues.
  • Evaluates discrepant hardware.
  • Designs and plans layout for such processes as hardening, washing, laminating, etching, engraving, polishing, painting, plating, and other material-processing operations.
  • Researches and evaluates commercially available tools and equipment to support manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoots existing processes to improve safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.
  • Incorporates engineering changes on work in process
Basic Qualifications Process Engineer (2)
  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or chemical engineering or related STEM degree and 2 years of relevant experience or Masters degree mechanical or chemical engineering or other relevant STEM discipline and 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in material processing and operations.
  • Ability to obtain Secret clearance for which United States citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
Basic Qualifications Principal Process Engineer (3)
  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or chemical engineering or related STEM degree and 5 years of relevant experience or Masters degree mechanical or chemical engineering or other relevant STEM discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in material processing and operations.
