Engineer Senior

Position Overview

Under general direction of the Engineer Chief, the successful candidate will perform professional engineering work at the administrative/management level in charge of a section of engineering professionals involved in regulating public electric and natural gas utilities.

• Assign formal and informal work to staff members
• Monitor staff progress on assignments
• Approve final staff work products
• Conduct performance reviews in accordance with state policies
• Monitor staff use of time
• Address other personnel and staff matters as required
• Be responsible for own case load, including high profile cases, in addition to administrative and supervisory tasks
• Prepare written testimony and testify in cases
• Confer with members of other state and federal agencies
• Provide policy recommendations to the Commission
• Perform other duties as may be required

• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers
• Eight (8) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience as a licensed Professional Engineer in a responsible capacity in charge of engineering projects
• Experience must have been acquired after the bachelor’s degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer
• Preference:
  Previous experience with electric or natural gas utilities; previous experience in management or supervisory positions

The Public Service Commission has established a salary range of $92,990 to $133,594 for this classification.
