The Manager of Parish and School Finances conducts compliance and internal audits to fulfill legal and fiduciary obligations for Diocesan parishes, schools and missions. The Manager of Parish and School Finances will assist the Diocese by bringing a systematic disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Interacts with parishes, schools, missions, chapels and other related entities in relation to financial and risk management issues.
- Prepares a compilation and review plans identifying parish, school and mission engagements anticipated dates and expected engagement resources.
- Compiles report on financial, operational and internal controls, current trends and problem areas for Bishop and Vicar General.
- Works with Diocesan Finance staff and prepares corrective action plan and follow up visit.
- Identify unsatisfactory practices and procedures outlining improvements in operations and reduction in costs.
- Examines and verifies accounting records and procedures in accordance with accepted professional standards to determine reliability of financial information.
- Ensures that Diocesan policies, internal controls and procedures are followed.
- Reviews underlying transactions, documents and records supporting financial statements and recommends methods for accuracy and effectiveness.
- Audits capital expenditures to ensure proper payment and claims.
- Works with external accounting firms.
- Schedules exit interviews with pastor, business manager or other administrator to discuss accounting and findings.
- Responds to accounting, internal controls, finance, budget, payroll, accounting software, tax and tax reporting questions.
- Provides training and assistance to pastors, business managers, administrators and finance staff.
- Coordinates financial reporting from parishes, schools and other Diocesan entities including compilation of reports and analysis.
- When appropriate, review and recommend parish, school and mission budget policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the process of gathering, reviewing, monitoring and analyzing parish quarterly and annual financial reports including calculation of Cathedraticum.
- Sits on the Diocesan health insurance and pension committees.
- Works with Buildings and Properties Office, Purchasing Office and the Human Resources Office to form an administrative team to serve Diocesan offices.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
