Minimum QualificationsEducation, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
- Must possess current or temporary Radiography License as required by state board where services will be provided:
MD: Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians
OH: Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health
PA: No state licensure required
WV: Radiography License or Temporary Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board - Must be nationally certified as defined by location where services will be provided:
MD: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire
OH: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire
PA: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within six (6) months of graduation from Medical Imaging program.
WV: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) before expiration of WV temporary license - Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
- Rotates in all diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
- Performs image procedures based on assessment of the status of the patient, request of the service, and imaging protocols. Monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision.
- Produces images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving.
- Select exposure factors based on patient’s size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
- Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients and other staff by using shielding, collimation, and the inverse square law, and by minimizing repeat exposures.
- Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care/safety.
- Assesses patient’s needs and provides imaging-related comfort, hygiene, and range of motion support.
- Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays for imaging procedures according to guidelines and protocols.
- Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions.
- Promotes a team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
- Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements throughout the hospital to support efficient, high‑quality, and cost‑effective patient care.
- Demonstrates imaging techniques, patient care, and guest‑relations behaviors in alignment with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
- Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
- Completes all in‑services and competencies by the required date and applies knowledge gained.
- Positions patients accurately in accordance with established protocols.
- Participates in coordination of daily workflow.
- Provides minimal instruction to radiology students regarding patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and use of accessory devices to obtain radiographic images. Provides clinical supervision and instruction within the policies of the Radiology program and its accrediting bodies.
- Ensures that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.
