Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – API 1169 required

Multiple project locations:
Mid-west & East Coast

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring that all welding procedures, materials, and workmanship meet the required codes, standards, and specifications for welding projects. The CWI plays a critical role in maintaining the quality and safety of welded structures and components across various industries.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply relevant welding codes and standards, such as those published by the American Welding Society (AWS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), or other recognized organizations.
  • Review and approve welding procedure specifications (WPSs) to ensure they meet the requirements for the intended application.
  • Witness and evaluate procedure qualification records (PQRs) and welder performance qualifications.
  • Perform visual inspections of welding materials, equipment, and completed welds to identify potential defects or non-conformances.
  • Oversee and interpret the results of non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods, such as radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or liquid penetrant testing.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance and quality control programs for welding operations, ensuring compliance with specified requirements and maintaining detailed records and documentation.
  • Assess and qualify welding personnel by evaluating their knowledge, skills, and abilities through written and practical examinations.
  • Monitor welding activities on‑site or in fabrication shops to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Document any non‑conformances, recommend corrective actions, and provide detailed reports to project managers or clients.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, fabricators, and contractors, to ensure effective communication and coordination of welding activities.
Qualifications
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from a recognized organization, such as the American Welding Society (AWS) or other international certifying bodies.
  • Extensive practical experience in welding operations, with a strong understanding of various welding processes and techniques.
  • Proficient knowledge of welding codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods and their interpretation.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent observational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to various stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications and record‑keeping systems.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
