Overview

The Hatfield and McCoy Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Logan County, West Virginia, dedicated to preserving Appalachian history while promoting heritage tourism, education, cultural preservation, and economic opportunity throughout southern West Virginia and eastern Kentucky. The Foundation operates the historic Hatfield & McCoy Homeplace and Museum, located near the renowned Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, and works with schools, nonprofits, tourism agencies, and community partners to celebrate regional history and strengthen local communities.

The Ameri Corps VISTA member will support efforts to expand the Foundation’s capacity to serve visitors, community members, and regional partners. The member will develop systems that strengthen museum operations, volunteer engagement, visitor services, educational programming, and community outreach.

Member Duties

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating outreach materials, communication toolkits, and social media templates
  • Organizing volunteer resources and developing event-planning tools focused on Appalachian history, culture, and heritage tourism
  • Developing resources for staff on building partnerships with schools, tourism organizations, community groups, and local leaders
  • Increasing awareness of the museum and expanding opportunities for educational and cultural programming
  • Supporting capacity building efforts focused on heritage tourism, nonprofit growth, and community engagement at the historic Hatfield & McCoy Homeplace
  • Creating plans for volunteer coordination, social media and communications, outreach materials for schools and community organizations, partnership development, and tourism initiatives supporting rural economic development
