The Southern Appalachian Labor School's mission is to provide education, research, and linkages for working class and disenfranchised people in order to promote understanding, empowerment, and change. The VISTAs will focus on expanded efforts to serve the at-risk population, by organizing and arranging support groups, counseling and referral resources: researching and developing information and social-media materials that would be age appropriate for young adults and children.
MemberDuties
- Fundraising (events, direct mail campaigns, grant research, writing and management)
- Volunteer recruitment (recruitment strategies, procedures, screening, training and record keeping)
- Marketing (community outreach, creating marketing materials, developing strategies, social media marketing)
- Coalition-building (establishing new partnerships and contacts, maintaining existing community partnerships)
The VISTAs will also be going into rural communities affected by the flash flooding in 2026. Many of which are with limited access to water and other supplies needed. The VISTAs will coordinate food and water distribution and cleaning supplies, batteries, and clothing.
