Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a 13-week Med/Surg assignment in Wheeling, WV, requiring 2 years of experience and night shift availability with every-other-weekend coverage.
Responsibilities- 52-bed acute care Med/Surg unit with all private rooms
- Patient population includes post-op orthopedic, general surgery, and neuro patients (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions), as well as medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, and CHF; hemodialysis patients are also on this unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6-7 (predominantly 1:7 on both day and night shifts)
- CNAs are available on the unit, typically 4-6 per shift at a 1:10-12 ratio
- Common drips include Heparin, PCA with MSO4, and occasional Ativan gtts; no cardiac drips or continuous insulin drips
- Respiratory equipment includes BIPAP (intermittent), CPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Remote telemetry monitoring available as needed; RNs are not required to read strips but may do so if experienced
- EMR system:
Allscripts/Sunrise - 12-hour night shifts (1845–0715)
- Every-other-weekend requirement (3 weekends per 6-week schedule); nights schedule covers Friday/Saturday
- Holiday rotation coverage required
- Floating may occur to other Med/Surg or Med/Surg-Oncology units; IMC float possible but only for Med/Surg overflow with no drips
- IV Team is in-house 24/7 and starts all IVs; RNs assess IV sites only
- Hospitalist, intensivist, RT, and pharmacy (Pyxis) are all available in-house 24/7
- Orientation consists of general hospital orientation followed by 2 full shifts on the unit
- Scrub colors: RNs wear navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets; hoodies are not permitted
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU Medicine system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
- 2 references are required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a perm facility if worked within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference
- Skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS required; ACLS is a plus
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN is not required
- Peritoneal dialysis experience is highly preferred
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Any licensing disciplinary history must be disclosed
