Nurse Staffing Coordinator (Psychiatric/Forensic Care)
Are you a seasoned psychiatric nurse with a talent for leadership and a passion for clinical excellence? We are looking for a Nurse Staffing Coordinator to serve as the heartbeat of our facility. In this position, you aren’t just managing a schedule—you are ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality of care by empowering the staff who provide it.
Our facility specializes in treating complex psychiatric disorders, including acute schizophrenia, psychosis, and cognitive decline. As the Staffing Coordinator, you are the bridge between administrative strategy and bedside compassion. You ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
This position is eligible for an appointment incentive of $13,500 to the selected applicant(s) who agree to work for the facility for a minimum period of twelve (12) months.

- Assess the delivery of nursing care in real time, identify opportunities for growth, and collaborate with your team to implement best practices.
- Act as a stabilizing force during behavioral emergencies. Your expertise ensures the safety of both our patients and your fellow staff members.
- Lead the coordination, scheduling, and organization of work activities across the hospital, ensuring seamless transitions between shifts.
- Serve as a mentor to nursing personnel, fostering a culture of professional development and high‑quality patient outcomes.
- By managing 24/7 coverage, you protect our nurses from burnout and ensure that our patients never go a moment without the support they deserve.
- Strong foundational nursing skills with advanced training in managing acute and chronic mental health conditions.
- The ability to stay calm and direct activities during high‑pressure situations or behavioral crises.
- A knack for administrative duties, scheduling, and evaluating unit activities to keep the facility running like clockwork.
- Mandatory overtime may be required to ensure patient safety and facility coverage.
- Applicants must successfully complete a background check and a comprehensive drug/alcohol screening (urinalysis and breath analysis).

- Optimize nursing assignments across all hospital units each shift to ensure 24/7 safety and high‑quality patient care.
- Act as the primary supervisor of nursing personnel in the Nurse Manager’s absence, maintaining operational continuity.
- Keep the Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) and Nurse Managers informed of critical unit issues through clear, concise, and timely reporting.
- Apply expert knowledge of hospital regulations and coordinate the hospital‑wide Adult Protective Services (APS) policy.
- Lead the response to behavioral emergencies, modeling and teaching advanced de‑escalation techniques to help patients manage acute emotional distress.
- Oversee the delivery of both psychiatric and medical nursing services to ensure clinical protocols are strictly followed.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives and collaborate across departments to elevate patient outcomes.
- Act as a professional bridge between the facility and families or outside organizations to further the hospital’s mission.
- Direct the training of unit personnel and promote continuing nursing education to ensure a highly skilled workforce.
- Ensure the seamless flow of information between unit staff and other departments to maintain a synchronized care environment.
- Teach healthcare professionals the psychological and physical tools needed to safely manage complex psychiatric behaviors, when necessary.

Licensure/
Certifications:
Current West Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Experience: Four (4) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience as a Registered Nurse.
Internal Applicants Only: Three (3) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience as a Registered Nurse and/or a specialty nursing classification (e.g., Charge Nurse, Infection Control Nurse, QAPI Nurse, etc.) may substitute for the required experience.
Substitution InformationGraduate coursework toward a degree in Nursing or a related field may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis or as determined by the Office of Shared Administration Equivalency Chart.
