Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing

National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers

Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia

Basic Life Support Certification required; additional Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training at the discretion of the department

Preferred Qualifications

Acute care, surgical, critical care, or trauma experience

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x‑ray and POC laboratory tests

Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition

Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance

Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal

Makes diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients

Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination utilizing the Meditech EMR

Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management

Prescribes therapy or medication electronically when available

Educates, instructs and coordinates activities with the medical assistant(s) during the care and treatment of patients

Provides emergency support following established policies and procedures

Communicates with staff, medical staff and administration in support of operations

Physical Requirements

Near vision required

Normal hearing required

Manual dexterity required

Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment

Working Environment

Cognizant of environmental factors, infection control issues, and maintains a safe environment

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrates competency in patient assessment for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
