Responsibilities- This position will oversee assigned cafe functions including but not limited to payment handling, product preparation and service, and general cleanliness. It will ensure that safety, sanitation, customer service, and positive customer experiences are maintained at all times.
- Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages utilizing blenders, coffee makers and grinders, and espresso machines.
- Ensure that all activities meet sanitation, safety, and quality control guidelines set forth by departmental policies and the West Virginia Department of Health.
- Takes inventory, places orders, retrieves orders, and puts orders away.
- Runs cash register, retrieves initial bank of money, verifies amounts, and balances out the bank at the end of shift.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, equipment and service areas.
- Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators and hot holding equipment.
- Describe and promote items to customers in a positive and service-driven way.
- Serve and prepare hot and cold items.
- Routinely clean, stock, and restock all food items and supplies.
- Sweep and mop floors, retrieve trash and take out to dumpster.
- Label and date food items as appropriate.
- Create signage daily as directed.
- Lock down café at end of meal service and return cash bag as directed.
- Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from the local health department prior to starting OR obtain a Temporary FSWP no later than the first worked day and a permanent FSWP within 1 week of start date or next available class. (Serv Safe meets this requirement) (not required when working in Berkeley County, WV)
- High school diploma or GED is preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
- Six months previous food services experience preferred (barista experience).
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs., push and pull up to 150 lbs.
- Requires significant walking throughout several buildings.
- Ability to work in a noisy, somewhat chaotic environment (dealing with customers while trying to fill and deliver orders).
- May require transportation of food service products.
- Ability to understand written and oral communication.
- Work in an isolated environment.
- Exposed to outside extreme environments (Summer heat, Winter cold, weather).
