POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Store Manager, the Lead Cashier position is responsible for ensuring outstanding customer service by all cashiers, promoting suggestive selling, maintaining strong product knowledge, replenishing merchandise on shelves and coolers, and completing housekeeping tasks. The Lead Cashier operates the point of sale (POS) register and related equipment, assists with scheduling employees, managing attendance, training new hires, and communicating performance issues.

The Lead Cashier completes purchase orders and receives merchandise using the inventory control system. The role ensures cashiers meet LVL gamers/patrons needs and Form W-2G compliance. The Lead Cashier also assists LVL technicians by emptying cash from slot machines and obtaining meter readings/printouts prior to store opening. The position enforces adherence to loss prevention policies, protects company assets, and upholds store standards and policies.

TYPICAL

SCHEDULE AND WORK LOCATION

This is a full-time position and hours vary by store and company needs. Scheduled hours approximate 40 hours per week; overtime requires supervisor authorization. Evening, holiday, and weekend work is required and will vary by store. Depending on staffing needs, the role may work at other nearby locations. Full-time status requires a minimum of 35 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior retail experience using a point of sale system.
  • Knowledge of English language structure, spelling, and grammar.
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, email, and internet browsers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL

This position does not require overnight travel. Some travel to other Gumby’s or Geno’s stores in the immediate area may be necessary for meetings or training at the corporate office or other locations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions)

  • Ensure outstanding customer service by maintaining a customer-friendly environment, greeting and acknowledging every customer, promoting suggestive selling, keeping the store organized and clean, and ensuring employees have solid product knowledge.
  • Oversee proper completion of all POS transactions, including returns, voids, and cash, checks, coupons, and credit/debit transactions; provide correct change per policy.
  • Ensure timely and safe cash drops, verify non-counterfeit money, and proper acceptance of credit/debit cards and checks per policy.
  • Assist Store Manager with scheduling in Paycor to cover shifts within budgets; manage attendance, communicate policies on time clock punching, and prepare rolling 4-week schedules.
  • Train new hires, ensure training checklists are completed, update the store Procedures binder, and train existing employees on new policies and procedures.
  • Communicate performance issues and policy violations to the supervisor for formal counseling.
  • Assist LVL technicians by removing cash from LVL machines, recording meter readings/printouts, and completing required logs per policy.
  • Validate LVL tickets, assist LVL patrons, maintain LVL machines per guidelines, and stock self-serve coolers in the gameroom.
  • Ensure IRS Form W-2G is completed per guidelines and maintain the master control log with Corporate.
  • Oversee end-of-shift/day reporting, balance cash drawer/till, reconcile coupons and checks, and prepare cash/coin for deposit.
  • Replenish shelves/coolers timely, perform housekeeping and general maintenance, and complete other assigned duties.
  • Complete purchase orders and receive merchandise using the inventory control system (CATAPULT) per policies.
  • Communicate maintenance issues, incident reports, POS/equipment issues, ATM/LVL issues via the appropriate Gumby’s form.
