POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Store Manager, the Lead Cashier is responsible for ensuring outstanding customer service by all cashiers, coaching cashiers in suggestive selling, displaying a strong product knowledge, replenishing merchandise on shelves and coolers, and completing housekeeping tasks. The Lead Cashier operates the point of sale (POS) register and related equipment, schedules employees, manages attendance, trains new hires, and communicates performance issues.

The Lead Cashier also completes purchase orders, receives merchandise via the inventory control system, ensures compliance with Form W‑2G, assists LVL technicians with cash handling, and enforces loss prevention, safety, and company policy compliance.

TYPICAL SCHEDULE AND WORK LOCATION

This is a full‑time position. Scheduled hours approximate 40 hours per week with full‑time status requiring a minimum of 35 hours. Hours beyond 40 require supervisor authorization. Evening, holiday, and weekend work is required and may vary. The position may require work at additional locations in the immediate area of the assigned store depending on staffing needs.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Prior work experience in a retail setting using a point of sale system.
Knowledge of English language structure, spelling, and grammar.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Microsoft Office software, email, and internet browsers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL

Limited travel: no overnight travel. The role may require occasional travel to nearby Gumby’s or Geno’s stores and to the corporate office for meetings or training.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions)

Ensure outstanding customer service, greet customers, practice suggestive selling, maintain store organization, and uphold employee product knowledge.

Process all POS transactions correctly, including returns, voids, cash, checks, coupons, and credit/debit handling in accordance with company policies.

Manage safe drops, verify non‑counterfeit money, and handle credit and check transactions during POS operation.

Assist the Store Manager in scheduling employees in Paycor, preparing rolling 4‑week schedules, and handling attendance issues.

Train new hires, complete and sign the new hire training checklist, and provide ongoing policy and procedure training.

Communicate all performance issues and policy violations to immediate supervisor for counseling.

Assist LVL technician by removing cash from machines before opening, obtaining meter readings, and logging cash entries per WV Lottery memorandum.

Validate LVL tickets, attend to LVL patrons, clean LVL machines, and stock self‑serve coolers.

Prepare and complete IRS Form W‑2G per company guidelines and maintain the master control log.

Complete end‑of‑shift and end‑of‑day reports, balance cash drawer, coupons, checks, and prepare cash for deposit.

Maintain merchandise on shelves and coolers, attend to housekeeping, and perform general maintenance duties as assigned.

Generate purchase orders and receive merchandise via the inventory control system (CATAPULT).

Report maintenance issues and equipment problems through appropriate forms.

Assist cashiers with troubleshooting LVL machine, credit card, ATMs, and cash kiosk issues.

Communicate cash level readings for ATMs and cash kiosks to LVL technicians.

Ensure employees wear appropriate company uniform and maintain professional appearance.

Enforce adherence to all company policies, procedures, and practices.
