Position SummaryThe National Account Sales Director engages directly with prospective customers to communicate the significant value statement for Plug Power system technology and drive revenue growth for the organization by cultivating business relationships. This role serves a critical function to build trusted and mutually beneficial relationships with the end-users of company technology. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of company technology, superior interpersonal skills, and the highest standards of business integrity.
Plug Power looks to our sales team members to represent the organization with energy and enthusiasm while helping to deliver superior technological solutions to our customer‑base within the material handling industry.
- Generate leads and work to identify prospective customers for Plug Power fuel cell system technology and our Gen Key package.
- Make regular contact with prospective customers to effectively communicate Plug Power's value statement and cultivate a business relationship.
- Engage prospective customers through progressive sales steps to earn confidence and move towards purchase agreements.
- Utilize a variety of tools and resources—fuel‑cell system trials, tours of existing customer sites, stakeholder meetings, customer testimonials and ROI examples—to secure purchase orders.
- Use available data to forecast budgets accurately for financial and manufacturing purposes.
- Manage existing customer relationships with a focus on maximizing satisfaction; address concerns and share feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop long‑term plans for existing customer locations to deepen relationships and ensure a continual revenue stream and long‑term ROI.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional partners, including senior management, to develop strategic marketing and sales programs.
- Take ownership for the satisfaction of each assigned customer account and coordinate with partners to achieve deliverables.
- Work to exceed established sales goals and share knowledge with peers for collective benefit.
- Provide relevant data and feedback to internal stakeholders to improve company operations.
- Communicate with internal departments to ensure clear understanding of field sales processes and their impact on metrics.
- Assist in implementing new design specifications through partnerships with production and engineering.
- Demonstrate superior project management skills to remove roadblocks and drive project success.
- Represent Plug Power with the highest levels of professionalism and integrity in all interactions.
- Perform any additional duties reasonably assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience
- BS or BA degree in engineering, marketing, business, or a related field.
- Salesforce proficiency is preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant sales experience; experience in the material handling industry strongly preferred.
- Ability to travel as needed (up to 100%).
- Dynamic communication abilities; persuasive and energetic.
- Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to articulate value statements to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Diligent and persistent in lead generation and customer development activities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in project management and team leadership.
