Position: Line Mechanic D-A

Job Summary

Perform work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. All job duties apply to overhead and underground equipment and facilities. The Line Mechanic C builds upon the skills, abilities and knowledge learned as a Line Mechanic D (or equivalent).

Job Description

This position is posted in a range from Line Mechanic D to Line Mechanic

A.

Line Mechanic D
  • Assist with the assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead and underground facilities under direct or immediate supervision.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform ground person duties under immediate or direct supervision as skill level dictates.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing and removing poles, towers and structures.
  • After completion of D-100, operate company equipment (except digger/derricks and aerial lift vehicles), climb poles, ladders and structures, and work on de-energized conductors and equipment.
  • May work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under direct supervision. After completion of D-200, operate digger/derrick and aerial devices under immediate supervision.
  • Assemble and install line material and hardware under supervision; use and store hand lines, tie knots and use ropes and rigging equipment.
  • Splice primary and secondary overhead wires using proper tools, hardware and equipment.
  • Operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers and other sectionalizing devices, and refuse line and transformer devices under direct supervision.
  • Inspect and maintain tools, equipment and work area; maintain safeguarding devices; perform housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit reports as required.
Line Mechanic C
  • Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities, including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment under immediate or general supervision.
  • After completion of C-100, work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision, and assist with work up to 600 volts under immediate supervision.
  • After completion of C-200, work on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision and use electrical test equipment.
  • Cover and potentially move primary conductors and equipment under direct supervision as appropriate.
  • Build and erect equipment mountings, perform proper tagging procedures, conduct inspection, troubleshoot lines, and direct work of employees.
Line Mechanic B
  • Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect conductors, fixtures and other associated equipment on overhead and underground facilities.
  • Assist with work on energized lines, cables and equipment during the first twelve months and progress from direct to immediate supervision.
  • Install and operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers and other sectionalizing devices; test de-energized lines or equipment.
  • Install, maintain and switch residential and commercial underground distribution facilities and locate faults using cable-locating tools.
  • Install street light circuits, three-phase transformer banks and regulator banks; handle capacitor banks.
  • Perform fault detection and safety meetings; direct the work of employees.
Line Mechanic A
  • Install and maintain transmission and distribution facilities and all types of line equipment on the most congested types of construction, energized or de-energized.
  • Operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, and other sectionalizing devices; re-fuse line and transformer devices; change taps and parallel circuits.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications, and proceed with new construction work and live line work without supervision.
  • Make energized cut-overs from old poles and equipment to new or temporary installations.
  • Operate underground facilities and locate and correct troubles using fault-finding tools.
