Position: Carpentry Craftsman-WV Parkways Authority-Raleigh Co.

CARPENTRY CRAFTSMAN – WV PARKWAYS AUTHORITY – RALLEIGH CO.

Location:

Beckley South Complex in Beckley, WV. Hourly wage: $17.48 – $25.35 per hour, based on experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

The employee will answer directly to the Foreman of the Carpenter Shop and perform at a proficiency level in the craft of carpentry. The candidate must have thorough knowledge of the skills involved, methods, materials, and equipment used. Responsible for leading, guiding and training apprentice craftsmen, planning, laying out, and supervising the work of skilled and unskilled tradesmen. The role includes full duties of a craftsman carpenter in one or more special areas: framing, forming, concrete, masonry & tile, cabinet finishing.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Follow oral and written instructions.

Accept supervision.

Operate and maintain Parkway equipment properly.

Work well with co‑workers.

Exhibit leadership abilities.

Read blueprints.

Interpret BOCA regulations.

Basic knowledge of sectional equipment operations.

Basic knowledge of all areas of the craft while being first‑class in one or more areas.

Five or more years of advanced skills in the carpentry trade.

Organize and direct a large crew of skilled and unskilled laborers.

Handle and prepare reports.

Utilize all available man‑hours effectively.

Withstand and work in adverse weather conditions.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS by Craft Area

Cabinet and Finishing
:
Knowledge of stain and painting, putty and caulking, belt sanding, installing trim, doors, cabinet hardware, weather stripping, hand‑apply finishes, trim work, plastic laminate work, building office furniture.
Framing
:
Ability to frame, roof, floor, and wall systems; knowledge of lumber dimensions, nailing, insulation installation, saw cutting, shingles, siding, sheeting; layout all frame structures.
Forming
:
Knowledge of concrete forming jobs (footers, slabs, curbs); forms for barrier walls, retainer walls, parapet walls, holding tanks, culverts, spillways.
Concrete
:
Knowledge of concrete pouring, parging, placement, ranking, hand screed, sealing; operation of power screed, electric vibrator; reinforcement steel installation, floating and finishing.
Masonry & Tile
:
Mixing mortar, grouts; cutting blocks, bricks, tiles; laying block, bricks, hanging and finishing; tape, base coat, drywall texture; installing tile and brick.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED. Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Minimum five years of experience in all fields of this section.
