Classified‑Exempt Position
Parks and Recreation/Cacapon Resort State Park. Under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisors, the Building Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled and semi‑skilled work at the full‑performance level in the mechanical or building trades in connection with the maintenance and repair of a 120‑room lodge, 31 cabins, Old Inn, park residences, nature center, picnic shelters, horse stable, bathhouse, and park support facilities at Cacapon Resort State Park.
Building Maintenance Mechanics are one part of a dedicated and hardworking team and environment at Cacapon Resort State Park.
- Install, maintain, and repair mechanical and building equipment for the lodge, cabins, and park facilities.
- Perform safety equipment checks, including smoke alarms, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and sprinklers.
- Handle plumbing tasks such as faucets, shut‑off valves, water main lines, pumps, water heaters, and related systems.
- Conduct HVAC duties, including circulator pumps, thermostat systems, air handlers, filters, ductwork, heat exchangers, and PTAC units.
- Perform basic electrical work, installing and repairing small light fixtures, power outlets, and switches.
- Operate mechanical tools and equipment such as chainsaws, leaf blowers, blowtorch, air compressors, circular saws, excavators, skid steers, and lawn mowers.
- Assist guests, deliver firewood to cabins, tend to the lodge fire pit, and perform evening closing duties such as closing the mountain gate.
- Work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and environments.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and maintain professional interactions with park visitors and staff.
- Comply with all Division of Personnel and State Park policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Show flexibility in scheduling, working weekdays, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Wear a park uniform.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain regular attendance.
- No formal education required.
- Two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in building maintenance or as a helper in a building trade.
- Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA‑approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
