POSITION 26S103

TITLE:

Extracurricular Bus Operator (extracurricular mid-day duty as needed)

LOCATIONS:
Midday JMHS and CHS. Work Study Extracurricular route (as needed). Changes and garaging point to be determined by the Transportation Director as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Observe all Federal, State and Local safety regulations for school buses
  • Maintain discipline, within county practices and guidelines, when students are on bus
  • Assist special education students as needed
  • Report to proper authorities any student involved in misconduct
  • Keep his/her bus clean both inside and out
  • Run on time, the bus schedule as assigned to him/her
  • Perform pre-trip inspections before each run as prescribed by State and Local regulations
  • Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
  • Discharge students only at stops authorized by the Transportation Supervisor
  • Exercise responsible leadership when on extra-curricular school trips
  • Transport only students authorized to ride the school bus
  • Report all accidents and complete all required State and Local accident reports
  • Attend, and actively participate in, all in-service training classes provided by State and County school officials
  • Attend all staff meetings called by the Transportation Supervisor, and faithfully complete all records, schedules, and other paperwork required
  • Other duties and assignments may be made by the Transportation Supervisor, as deemed necessary and appropriate
  • Qualifications
  • Familiarize with and abide by the contents of the handbook, West Virginia School Transportation Regulations
  • Hold current and valid licenses and certifications in WVDE Bus Operator Certification, WV Commercial Driver's License, and Class B with school bus and passenger endorsements
  • Meet all training, health, and age requirements of the State and Local Boards of Education
  • Pass a physical examination as prescribed by the State of WV and administered by a licensed, CDL certified physician, drug and alcohol testing, and State and Federal background checks
  • Term & Compensation

    Employment term:
    Anticipated start date August 13, 2026. Estimated contract: as needed, normally six hours per day as needed, but flexible as needed by bus run or student needs.

    Pay Grade
