Utility Technician, Maintenance Worker

The Utilities department has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Utilities Labourer
1. Reporting to the Wastewater Chief Operator, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible through to December 31, 2026.
- Assist the Utilities team in the operation, repair and maintenance of the water distribution, wastewater treatment and wastewater collection operating systems.
- Drive a truck to transport tools, equipment, materials and staff to and from job sites.
- Brush clearing on utility installations such as wastewater treatment facility, sewer lift stations, landfill gas flare, and landfill leachate.
- Perform traffic control “flagging” duties at jobsites.
- Perform routine cleaning and painting of utility installations.
- Assist in the inspection of sanitary sewer manholes.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Frequently work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform night work at times.
- Grade 12 education supplemented by 2 years of experience as a labourer in a construction or maintenance environment, preferably in utility maintenance and/or construction.
- Knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair of municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Previous experience with the use of a variety of hand and power tools.
- Computer literacy/familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook email and calendar programs.
- Sufficient strength, stamina and coordination to perform medium to heavy manual duties in all weather conditions.
- Ability to maintain good housekeeping standards at jobsites, stations, shops and office areas.
- Commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace.
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s license and ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to employment.
This position works 76.5 hours biweekly at a rate of $32.91 per hour. Employees in the Utilities Department normally work a schedule consisting of eight days of work in a fourteen-day period. Each day of work shall be 10 hours exclusive of a one‑half (1/2) hour lunch period.
