- Trades Position Summary
The Automotive Light Duty Technician performs vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, light mechanical repairs, pre-delivery inspections, and reconditioning work in accordance with manufacturer specifications and dealership quality and safety standards. This position supports efficient Service Department operations while continuing to develop the technical knowledge, certifications, and productivity required for advancement within the technician classifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform new-vehicle pre-delivery inspections and install approved accessories as assigned.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and complete mechanical reconditioning on used vehicles, including Honda Certified Pre-Owned inspections when qualified and assigned.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services, including fluid exchanges, filters, belts, and other manufacturer-recommended services.
  • Diagnose and repair brake, steering, suspension, and cooling systems within the scope of the position.
  • Install, balance, rotate, and repair tires and inspect related components.
  • Test, service, and replace batteries and perform basic electrical diagnosis and repair.
  • Complete minor mechanical and warranty repairs in accordance with Honda and dealership procedures.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections; identify needed repairs, safety concerns, and maintenance needs; and communicate findings accurately.
  • Document inspection results, diagnostic findings, labor performed, parts used, and recommendations completely and accurately on repair orders.
  • Use approved tools, equipment, technical information, and manufacturer repair procedures to complete work safely and correctly.
  • Perform quality-control checks and road-test vehicles when authorized to confirm repairs and proper operation.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area and properly care for dealership and customer vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Complete assigned Honda factory, dealership, safety, and technical training and apply learned procedures on the job.
  • Collaborate professionally with service advisors, parts personnel, technicians, and leadership to support timely and accurate repairs.
  • Follow dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, union provisions, environmental procedures, and all applicable safety regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned based on business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Previous hands-on automotive maintenance and repair experience in a dealership, independent repair shop, tire store, quick-service facility, or comparable environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform light-duty maintenance and mechanical repairs safely and with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of automotive systems, repair practices, shop equipment, and safe tool use.
  • Ability to read and follow repair orders, technical service information, manufacturer procedures, and safety instructions.
  • Ability to complete required Honda factory, dealership, and safety training within established timelines.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Honda or Acura dealership experience.
  • Automotive technical education or vocational training.
  • Current ASE certifications or progress toward certification.
  • Experience with vehicle reconditioning, pre-delivery inspections, warranty repairs, or Honda Certified Pre-Owned inspections.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic automotive mechanical, electrical, braking, steering, suspension, cooling, and maintenance systems.
  • Skill in using hand tools, power tools, lifts, tire equipment, diagnostic equipment, and technical service resources.
