On-call rotation:
One week (7 days) per month
The Senior Maintenance Technician reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and serves as the senior technical resource and on-the-floor lead for daily maintenance activities within a large corporate campus environment.
This role is primarily hands‑on and does not include formal supervisory or HR responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance, daily coordination, and operational continuity while ensuring facility systems remain safe, reliable, and efficient.
Primary Responsibilities Maintenance (70%)Perform advanced preventive maintenance and repairs on facility systems and process equipment, including:
- HVAC systems
- Laboratory hoods
- Heat recovery systems
- Boilers
- Cooling towers
- Generators
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing and piping systems
- Building automation and process controls
- Manage building HVAC systems and maintain campus security systems.
- Independently diagnose and resolve complex maintenance issues.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts and implement effective corrective actions.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment to analyze and repair equipment failures.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for advanced maintenance issues.
- Promote a strong safety culture and positive team environment.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards.
- Identify and recommend projects that protect and improve facility assets.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors as directed.
- Obtain bids and manage relationships with outside vendors and contractors.
- Provide technical input during project planning and execution.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
- Assist with maintaining operational continuity during supervisor absences.
- Coordinate and prioritize daily maintenance activities.
- Review work orders and help sequence tasks for efficiency and safety.
- Escalate staffing, performance, and policy concerns to management when appropriate.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree in a maintenance-related field, trade certification, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of hands‑on maintenance experience, preferably in a corporate campus, laboratory, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Minnesota Chief C Boiler License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Strong knowledge of VFDs and motor control centers (MCCs).
- Experience with welding, brazing, soldering, and pipe fitting.
- Strong mechanical aptitude involving pumps, motors, HVAC equipment, and laboratory equipment.
- Experience with water treatment systems, including reverse osmosis and deionized water systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic control systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of high‑voltage three-phase electrical systems and low‑voltage control circuits.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong safety awareness and experience with Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Hazardous Chemical Safety.
- Strong communication and computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively with internal teams, leadership, and outside contractors.
- 10+ years of technical training and experience involving building controls, process controls, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and laboratory equipment.
- Experience with building automation and energy management systems.
- OSHA Construction Safety and Health Certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in a maintenance, facilities, or engineering‑related field.
- Ability to work safely at elevated heights, including roofs and ladders.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and related equipment.
- Ability to safely use required personal protective equipment and work around chemicals used within the facility.
