Position: Fiber Technician II - White House, TN

Position Summary

Performs all types of telecommunications line construction including fiber optic extensions, fiber optic drops to customer premises (overhead and underground), maintenance and repair, and retirements. Performs both fusion and mechanical splicing on fiber optic cables. The position also performs customer premise installations of fiber, ethernet, and associated electronic equipment in residential and commercial buildings. Interacts with members to coordinate the routing and proper installation of fiber equipment and devices.

Trains and educates subscribers on best practices for the utilization of internet and phone services. Makes recommendations for the correct services to best meet the subscriber's needs.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the observance and enforcement of CEMC safety rules, procedures, safety policies, and bulletins
  • Safely, efficiently, and properly installs, prepares, removes, troubleshoots, and maintains all types of telecommunications and fiber line equipment and apparatus as required or directed.
  • Constructs and maintains all phases of mainline fiber line construction including aerial (communication space) and underground cables.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs all fiber drops (overhead and underground) to residential and commercial customer premises.
  • Splices fiber cable to industry quality standard and effectively operates all fiber optic testing equipment.
  • Performs and analyzes OTDR measurements and light meter readings.
  • Performs site surveys while recommending the best approach in providing broadband service for residential, commercial, and other facilities including multi-dwelling units (MDUs).
  • Performs field audits to gather information needed for proper outside plant design.
  • Responds quickly to reported broadband outages. Locates problems and performs maintenance on fiber lines as necessary to restore service as quickly as possible.
  • Properly installs internal fiber optic cabling and ethernet cabling within residential and commercial structures.
  • Uses best practices for all internal wiring so as to comply with local building codes.
  • Installs, terminates, and tests CAT5/5e/6 cabling and fiber optic cabling.
  • Performs minor drywall patches/repairs as needed.
  • Performs troubleshooting and diagnostics on customer complaints regarding internet and phone services.
  • Ensure seamless connectivity within buildings or premises, including offices, data centers, and residential spaces.
  • Install and configure networking equipment, such as switches, routers, and patch panels, as part of inside wiring projects.
  • Conduct thorough testing of inside wiring configurations to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of various technologies, devices, and networking equipment commonly used within homes and businesses.
  • Educates members on how to connect and utilize their internet connected equipment.
  • Markets Cumberland Connect broadband services to members and public as necessary.
  • Makes recommendations to direct supervisor regarding process improvement and problem resolution when independent action would exceed scope of authority.
  • Exercises great care to avoid damage to property and reports any damage to appropriate personnel as soon as possible.
  • Communicates with the members and requests property owners' permission prior to performing work, when applicable.
  • Works with CEMC linemen on the installation, maintenance, and repair of all outside fiber plant.
  • Assists in providing training and education for Fiber Technician I employees as‑needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to fulfill the objectives of the company and this position.
