Position: FDA Research Opportunity - Immune Responses to Influenza, Respiratory Syncytia Virus and Adjuva[...]

Research Project

You will be joining a training opportunity to study humoral immune responses following RSV or influenza infections and vaccination in humans as well as novel vaccine adjuvants and mucosal vaccines.

Learning Objectives

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will be trained in advanced techniques such as virus neutralization assays, cytokine production, whole genome gene‑fragment phage display libraries (GFPDL), Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), and recombinant protein expression in bacterial and mammalian systems. The training will also cover the mode of action and safety of novel adjuvants used to enhance immune responses to multiple vaccines, utilizing human‑derived cells and organoids such as monocytes/macrophages, bronchio‑epithelial and nasal‑epithelial cells grown under Air‑Liquid‑Interphase (ALI).

Appointment Details
  • Anticipated Appointment

    Start Date:

    August 31, 2026 (flexible based on circumstances)
  • Appointment Length:
    Initially one year; may be renewed upon FDA recommendation and contingent on funding availability.
  • Level of Participation:
    Full time.
  • Participant Stipend:
    Monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.
Eligibility and Qualifications
  • Citizenship: U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
  • Degree:
    Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Life Health and Medical Sciences (Basic Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Comparative Medicine and Laboratory Animal Medicine, Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Zoonoses, Microbiology, Virology) received within the last 36 months.
  • Preferred

    Skills:

    Experience conducting scientific research in a laboratory setting.
