Position: FDA Medical Acoustics Research Opportunity

Overview

An ORISE Fellowship opportunity within the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), FDA, located in Silver Spring, Maryland. The fellowship focuses on FDA’s Medical Acoustics Program ensuring safe medical acoustic devices through therapeutic/diagnostic and transcranial sub‑programs covering brain treatments, tumor ablation, pain management and cardiovascular care.

Appointment Details

Anticipated start date: 2026 (flexible). Appointment length: initially one year, with possible renewal. Full‑time. Monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.

Learning Objectives
  • Investigate transcranial safety
  • Develop standardized characterization methodologies and computational tools
  • Create standard foundations for emerging technologies
  • Safety assessment and standard testing approaches
  • Develop regulatory guidance for acoustic device applications
Qualifications
  • Degree:
    Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree received within last 60 months or anticipated to be received by 5/31/2027.

Benefits and Requirements

Participant receives a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required. No employment‑related benefits are provided. Background investigation by the Office of Personnel Management is required; applicants must have resided in the United States for at least three of the past five years.
