Overview:
The Assistant Controller supports the CFO in overseeing the accounting operations for owned and managed properties. This person is tasked with maintaining financial records in accordance with GAAP and/or Tax. This role focuses on day-to-day accounting functions, assisting with audits, preparing financial reports, and providing support to the accounting team.
Responsibilities:
Oversee and assist with daily accounting tasks, including accurate and timely posting of payments and receipts.
Aid the CFO in preparing for annual audits by ensuring that all necessary documentation and records are organized and readily available.
Prepare periodic financial reports, budgets, and financial summaries for review by the CFO and submission to lenders, investors, and other stakeholders.
Assist in supervising and training accounting staff. Ensure that the team follows accounting procedures and maintains a positive work environment.
Handle inquiries from lenders, investors, and other parties related to financial records and reports.
Monitor and work in accordance with the schedule laid out on the Monthly Accounting Calendar.
Prepare and present monthly financial report to Owners prior to releasing to outside parties.
Assure that all reports are sent timely and that all covenants are monitored for lenders and investors.
Work collaboratively with other departments and teams to support overall company objectives and financial operations.
Assist in ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies. Identify and recommend improvements to financial processes as needed.
Requirements:6-10 years of property accounting experience with multi-family projects; affordable a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. CPA or advanced certifications (e.g., MBA) are preferred.
Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Strong leadership and project management skills
Ability to develop and execute strategic plans
Detailed working knowledge of Yardi.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software.
