Senior Accountant
Location: White Plains, NY
Schedule: Onsite 100%, Monday-Friday
Compensation: $90-100k
An established organization within the construction services sector is seeking a Senior Accountant to support financial operations across multiple business functions. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys being close to the business, partnering with operational teams, and ensuring the financial side of projects runs smoothly from start to finish.
This position offers broad exposure to financial reporting, project accounting, cash management, payables, receivables, and compliance activities. The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver who can navigate a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Responsibilities- Own the reconciliation and maintenance of key general ledger and balance sheet accounts.
- Manage the financial flow of customer billings, collections, payment applications, and outstanding receivables.
- Oversee vendor payment activity and ensure invoices are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Support project-related purchasing and monitor expenditures against approved budgets.
- Participate in monthly financial close activities, including account analysis and journal entry preparation.
- Produce financial reports and supporting schedules for leadership review.
- Monitor cash activity and assist with liquidity planning and forecasting.
- Support tax-related reporting requirements, including sales and use tax filings.
- Work closely with project teams and operational leadership to improve financial visibility and cost tracking.
- Assist with audit preparation and implementation of accounting process improvements.
- Evaluate financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of accounting experience in a commercial or project-driven environment.
- Prior experience supporting construction, contracting, engineering, property management, or similar industries is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and GAAP.
- Experience managing multiple accounting functions, including payables, receivables, and account reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working within ERP or accounting systems.
- Familiarity with project costing, union environments, or multi-state tax requirements is a plus.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to investigate issues and interpret financial information.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with internal stakeholders.
