Location: City of White Plains

Our client, a privately owned commercial real estate investment and management firm in White Plains,NY is seeking a Accounting Manager to join their team. The firm owns and manages office, retail, industrial, mixed-use, and multifamily properties.

The Accounting Manager is a hands‑on position responsible for supporting day‑to‑day accounting operations, supervising AP/AR activities, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting the Controller and CFO with cash management, reporting, and other accounting priorities.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience. CPA is a plus.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; commercial real estate, property management, or multi-entity accounting experience is preferred.
  • Previous hands‑on supervisory experience with accounts payable and/or accounts receivable staff.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, general ledger coding, internal controls, billing procedures, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in App Folio and Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; ability to organize, reconcile, and review financial information accurately.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow‑through, and ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Team‑oriented approach with a positive, helpful attitude and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, vendors, tenants, and banking contacts.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee vendor management and support the day‑to‑day activities of accounts payable and accounts receivable staff.
  • Process monthly management fees, owner distributions, mortgage payments, maintenance payments, and other recurring obligations.
  • Review and approve vendor disbursements by check, e‑check, wire, or ACH, ensuring appropriate authorization and supporting documentation.
  • Review general ledger coding for accuracy and prepare journal entries for non‑check transactions, adjustments, and recurring items as needed.
  • Maintain accurate property and accounting data in App Folio and help ensure transactions, vendor records, tenant activity, and supporting documentation are entered consistently and timely.
  • Prepare payable reports and related schedules for management review.
  • Review daily cash balances across company and property bank accounts and communicate unusual activity or cash needs to management.
  • Handle banking activities including transaction review, stop payments, and the setup and approval of wires and ACH transactions.
  • Assist with the research and resolution of bank reconciliation discrepancies and other accounting exceptions.
  • Oversee cash receipts in App Folio, including the application of rent payments and other receipts to the appropriate tenant, property, and bank account.
  • Support billing and leasing functions in App Folio, including entering lease abstracts, tenant charges, and maintaining related property and accounting information.
  • Review and allocate corporate credit card activity and prepare related bill‑outs to the appropriate entities or properties.
  • Coordinate and streamline recurring electronic auto‑debits such as utilities, LLC fees, and other regularly scheduled charges.
  • Coordinate year‑end 1099 preparation and maintain accurate vendor information and supporting records.
  • Support payroll processing and payroll‑related reporting as required.
  • Assist with accounting procedures, internal controls, recordkeeping, and process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Serve as a backup to the Controller and CFO for accounting, banking, reporting, and other priority finance matters as needed.
